Over 50?

Looking for work in your 50's 60's even 40s, according to some career coaches, presents difficulties.  A number of stereotypes must be overcome including:
  • not technologically savvy
  • tired, slow, unenthusiastic and just putting in time until they can retire
  • set in their ways and not willing to try new things
  • unable to get along with younger co-workers and bosses
  • too expensive
Your 40s and 50s should be your top earning years, yet if you loose your job, it becomes increasingly difficult to find another job. Some hiring managers think 40 is old. A number of recruiters admit they will not seriously consider anyone over 59 for a permanent full-time job.  A recent survey found that many of those who retire and go on social security at 62 do so because they have exhausted their unemployment benefits.
