RE:  Middle School Science Position

Dear Mr. Curley:

With three years of science teaching experience at the middle school level and additional experience as a long term substitute, nature interpreter, and research lab assistant, I believe I am well qualified for a position with the Amesbury School system.  Since I unfortunately no longer have a position in Haverhill due to budget cuts and the negotiated bidding process, perhaps Haverhill's loss can be Amesbury's gain.

I an enthusiastic about all areas of science and technology and inquiry-based learning is central to my teaching strategy. I have:

>  implemented curricula while at Whittier Middle School and Tilton  Middle School that were both
relevant and appealing to young  adolescents and served to develop their competency in basic biology,
earth science, chemistry, earth science, physical science and ngineering.    Ninety five percent of
my  students passed the  8th grade MCAS and eighty percent scored proficient or advanced.

>  developed and taught a variety of highly interactive science-oriented  programs while employed as
a Nature Interpreter (Well State Forest) and while a staff member at the EcoTarium.

>  facilitated an after school program that introduced middle school
student to engineering and environmental science.

>  designed and taught an MCAS preparatory class for under-achieving   8th graders.

>  taught Anatomy and Physiology, Physics, and General Science at the high school level as a long-
    term substitute.

In addition to my resume, I have enclosed copies of recommendations and a favorite lesson plan.  I hope these documents will give you a sense of what I can offer Amesbury Middle School,

I will call your office next week to confirm that I have completed all required application steps and to inquire about the selection and interview processes.  I look forward to the opportunity to meet with you to further discuss how I can contribute to Amesbury's school system and the education of your students.

Sincerely,

Jean E. Teacher

Ms. Mary Smith
Unit Manager, Maternity
Memorial Hospital
Belmont Street
Worcester, MA  01601

Dear Ms. Smith:

I believe my recent nursing education coupled with experience in education and parenting qualifies me for a position as a Maternity Nurse.  I am enclosing my resume for your consideration. Highlights of my qualifications include:

·           Education:   As a new graduate, my knowledge and experience are up-to date.  I have    completed recent clinical rotations in Labor and Delivery, and Postpartum.  In these rotations, I
have performed neonatal and postpartum assessments, provided new mothers with breastfeeding instruction and assisted in labor coaching and deliveries, both vaginal and cesarean section.

 ·          Background: I understand labor and delivery and what it is like to be a new mother, including    the mother of twins. Having worked in the field of special education, I understand some of the             less than ideal futures that some children and families may face.  In all the paid and volunteer        positions that I have held, strong communication skills and the ability to develop rapport with
people are common denominators.

·           Commitment: Since I held my first child, I have wanted to be a maternity nurse, but it took time and perseverance before I could enter a nursing program.  Having completed my nursingprogram I can see myself providing high quality health care in any medical-surgical area, but maternity nursing is where my natural talents and education will be best used, and truly where my heart is.

After speaking with a friend who works in maternity at Memorial, I am very interested in working in what she describes as ateam orientated environment.  I feel that this type of environment would enable me to develop and expand my clinical experience while providing quality health care to my patients.  I am confident that my enthusiasm, education, and background will prove to be an asset to UMASS Memorial Hospital.  I believe there would be no better place to begin my maternity nursing career than in central Massachusetts' most respected and comprehensive maternity unit.

Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.  I look forward to hearing from you for a personal interview at your earliest convenience.

Sincerely,

Sarah Fritz
